The Barking Barrier project was to enable the cleaning and restoration of the London flood defence gate at Barking Creek where the river Roding comes off the main river Thames.
To enable this TONE Scaffolding Services had to build 4 x Layher towers tied int the main concrete support towers to a height of around 42 meters, bespoke designed steel u channels were then secured to the top of the wall to allow the multiple chords of 1.2 beams at a span of 34 meters to be landed into and onto heavy duty skates to allow for movement and flex in the building and structure. Once all the beams were placed and tied together the main structure could then start to be built.
The main structure consisted of 2 hanging scaffolds at 40m in length and double width. The bottom deck of the main structures were linked below the barrier to give a full encapsulation working environment.
Throughout the build and restoration project we had to have standby teams ready to deploy to strike elements of the structures to enable the closure of the barrier should there be a risk of flood at any point.
